Taylor Swift delivered a deeply emotional performance of “Bigger Than the Whole Sky” in memory of her fan, Ana Clara Benevides, during her concert in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday night.
The 23-year-old fan suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away after attending Swift’s first show in Rio de Janeiro on Friday. Swift, visibly emotional, dedicated her performance to Benevides and struggled to hold back tears as she sang the poignant lyrics.
Benevides had been at Nilton Santos Olympic Stadium for over eight hours and began to feel unwell amid the high temperatures in Rio de Janeiro. Water bottles were not allowed inside the venue on that day.
Swift expressed her devastation on social media, stating, “I can’t even tell you how devastated I am by this… I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about it. This is the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to bring this tour to Brazil.”
Due to the extreme temperatures, Swift postponed a concert originally scheduled for Saturday to Monday.
