A 19-year-old was arrested after a man was struck and killed by gunfire in a San Juan Capistrano townhome on May 30, officials said.
Jose Luis Ortiz Dejesus, 32, was found at the 2600 block of Calle San Francisco with a gunshot wound and pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect, now identified as Yonic Montealvan-Saldivar, 19, fled before officers arrived on scene. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department declined to discuss how Montealvan-Saldivar was identified as a person of interest.
On June 10, Montealvan-Saldivar was trying to re-enter the U.S. and was detained by U.S. Customs and Border Protection at the Calexico West Port of Entry in Calexico. He was booked into Imperial County Jail on a warrant and then transferred to Orange County and booked for homicide.
Details on what led to the fatal shooting were not immediately available.
