Suspect Flees Scene After SUV Fatally Strikes Man in Wilmington

Authorities are seeking the assistance of the public in locating the driver of an SUV that struck and killed a 36-year-old man who was igniting fireworks on the street in Wilmington. The incident occurred on the 700 block of North Fries Avenue, near West G Street, south of Anaheim Street. The Los Angeles Fire Department received a call at approximately 9:10 p.m. on Monday, prompting the dispatch of paramedics to the scene.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the SUV was traveling at a considerable speed in a northerly direction on Fries Avenue from G Street when it collided with the pedestrian. After the impact, the victim was tragically dragged for about 85 feet before being detached from the SUV’s undercarriage. Subsequently, the pedestrian was struck by a second vehicle, whose driver remained at the accident site.

Regrettably, the driver of the SUV did not stop and provide assistance, as required by law. Instead, they fled the scene, continuing their journey northward on Fries Avenue. Paramedics pronounced the victim deceased upon arrival. To respect the privacy of the deceased, his identity is being withheld pending notification of his family members.

A reward of up to $50,000 is being offered to individuals who can provide valuable information leading to the identification, apprehension, conviction, or resolution through a civil compromise in this hit-and-run incident.
