A pilot was extricated from a small plane after it crashed into the water off the coast of Huntington Beach Friday afternoon, July 22, but it appeared there weren’t any injuries, authorities said.
The plane crashed in the water just south of Beach Boulevard in a portion of the beach patrolled by California State Parks, Huntington Beach police spokeswoman Jennifer Carey said.
The single-engine Piper Cub crashed into the Pacific Ocean about 1:50 p.m., Eva Ngai of the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement.
The pilot was the only one on board, she said.
Video posted on social media showed the plane going down before crash landing into shallow water south of the Huntington Beach pier. The plane appeared to lean forward onto the nose after hitting the surface of the water, but remained intact.
