According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, a video has surfaced allegedly depicting the deliberate killing of a cyclist in Las Vegas.

Andreas Probst, a 64-year-old retired police chief, was fatally struck by a 17-year-old driver who seemingly found amusement in the act.

The incident occurred on August 14 at approximately 6 a.m. while Probst was cycling.

The Mail Online shared a video in which the driver speeds towards Probst as someone asks, “Ready?” and one of the passengers films the scene.

According to the Mail Online, one of the teenager’s friends can be heard saying, “yeah, hit his ass.”

In the disturbing video, the car collides with Probst, sending him flying through the air. The camera then pans to show Probst lying on the side of the road as the car speeds away.

The teenager was arrested shortly after the incident and taken to the Juvenile Detention Center. According to the Review-Journal, the charges were later upgraded to include open murder after the discovery of the video.

Probst’s daughter, Taylor Probst, received an alert from her father’s Apple Watch and went to the crash site with her mother. “I come from law enforcement as well in my younger days,” said Crystal Probst, Probst’s wife, in an interview with the Review-Journal. “I was able to ascertain, there’s his bike, his helmet is way over there, his phone is way over there. I’m like, this is not good.”

“He was honestly like a ray of sunshine,” Taylor said, as reported by KLAS 8 News Now. “That just bled through your life.”

In the United States, bicycle deaths have been consistently increasing over the past decade. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 938 cyclist fatalities in 2020, representing a 9% increase from 2019.

Alcohol was a contributing factor in 34% of all fatal cyclist crashes, as stated in the report.
