A woman was charged on Monday with a felony child abuse count after allegedly attacking a 13-year-old girl inside a McDonald’s restaurant in Harbor City. The incident, which was captured on cell phone video, occurred on September 6.
Ariana Lauifi, 31, is scheduled to be arraigned on October 23 in a Long Beach courtroom. She has been charged with one felony count of child abuse under circumstances likely to cause great bodily injury or death, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Lauifi was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department last Thursday and was released on $100,000 bond early Monday morning, according to jail records.
Lauifi is believed to be the perpetrator of the attack on 13-year-old Kassidy Jones at the McDonald’s restaurant on Lomita Boulevard. The attack appeared to be unprovoked, and Jones sustained facial bruises as a result.
Investigators credit tips from the public for leading them to Lauifi. The motive for the attack is still unknown.
In a statement, the girl’s family expressed their gratitude for the arrest, stating that McDonald’s managers and onlookers did nothing to stop the assault. They also mentioned that Kassidy is currently undergoing therapy and hopes that justice will be served.
“Kassidy is still traumatized and undergoing therapy. But hopefully this news will give her encouragement that justice will be served.”
