Two individuals were apprehended on Friday following an altercation in which a Nardo Wick fan was assaulted while attempting to take a photo with the rapper outside of Club Skye in Tampa, as reported by Tampa police.
Zachary Benton, 34, and Edward Hamlett, 15, voluntarily surrendered to authorities on Friday, as confirmed by the Tampa Police Department and were charged with felony battery. Additionally, Hamlett faced charges for being a minor in possession of a firearm while wearing a mask.
The arrests stemmed from an early morning assault on Monday that left a Wesley Chapel man hospitalized with serious injuries.
According to prior reports, George Obregon Jr. approached rapper Nardo Wick around 1:17 a.m. on Monday for a photo following a concert at Club Skye in Ybor City.
At that time, two individuals believed to be associated with the performer assaulted Obregon.
Obregon was taken to a local hospital and was initially reported to be in critical but stable condition on Monday.
In an Instagram post after the incident, Wick issued an apology to Obregon and his family. His management team later clarified that the individuals who assaulted Obregon were not part of Wick’s security team nor had any direct ties to the rapper.
In a statement on Saturday after the arrests, the Tampa Police Department expressed gratitude to the public for providing videos of the incident and anonymous tips that aided in the identification of suspects and their subsequent arrests.
