Experts: Mammograms should start at age 40
Actor Shannen Doherty, known for her roles in “Charmed” and “Beverly Hills, 90210,” announced on Instagram that her breast cancer has spread to her brain. The emotional video shows Doherty undergoing radiation treatment while wearing a custom-made mask to keep her head still. Doherty, who has been dealing with cancer since 2015, urges people to take cancer seriously. Experts recommend mammograms start at age 40 to catch breast cancer early.
Doherty’s cancer was first detected when her dog “obsessively sniffed” her side. The cancer had spread to her lymph nodes by 2016, leading to chemotherapy and radiation. She went into remission in 2017, but the cancer returned in 2020 as stage 4, meaning it has spread beyond its original location.
Despite her cancer diagnosis, Doherty recently filed for divorce from her husband of 11 years, saying she felt she had no other option. Her publicist says Doherty did not want the divorce.
