Settlement Reached in Girl’s Sexual Abuse Suit Against Rowland Unified

A girl who alleged she was molested by her second grade teacher has reached a settlement in her lawsuit against the Rowland Unified School District.

Lawyers for plaintiff Jane Doe J.C., now 12 years old, and the district told Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Kevin C. Brazile during a hearing on Monday that the case was resolved. No terms were divulged and it was not immediately clear if the settlement is contingent upon approval by the Board of Education.

The suit brought on the girl’s behalf in August 2018 alleged that second grade teacher Jose Cruz Martinez molested the student during the 2017-18 school year. The complaint alleged sexual battery, sexual harassment, negligence and both intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress.
