SEO-Friendly and Engaging Title: “Nightfall Brings Widespread Freeze as Growing Season Nears its Close – PM Update”

* Freeze warning late tonight through Thursday morning *

Temperatures struggled through the 40s today, with the city just clipping 50, which sets the stage for our first widespread freeze of the season tonight. For many locations, we skipped right past the moderately chilly nights to the freeze or hard-freeze kind. The cold will be short-lived but should be enough to end the growing season, outside of some of the mildest spots.

Through Tonight: Mainly clear skies persist this evening and through the night. Most of the area sees a freeze, with lows ranging from the mid-20s to lower 30s in a majority of spots. Places right near the bay and in the urban cores may stay just above freezing.

Tomorrow (Thursday): There isn’t much change in temperatures compared with today, but winds are much lighter, which makes a difference. Highs end up within a few degrees of 50 in most places. With time, winds turn to come from the south, blowing around 5 to 10 mph.

Brrr: Freeze warnings run from East Texas through the South and Southeast, then into our region for tonight. The warning runs right up to within throwing distance of the northern Gulf Coast and places such as Pensacola, Fla., and Mobile, Ala., where lows make the low and mid-30s. Temperatures in the mid- or upper 30s may make it to northern gulf waters, which means Thursday could deliver some sea smoke, given water temperatures in the mid-70s to around 80 there.
