On Monday, schools and the stock market in Hong Kong remained closed as Typhoon Talim passed by the city. The financial hub prepared for inclement weather, leading over 100 people to seek shelter in temporary facilities. Some government and ferry services were halted, and several events were postponed. The Hong Kong Observatory issued a No. 8 typhoon signal, which is the third-highest warning level in the city’s weather system. This was the first time this year that such a warning was issued.
In the meantime, Guam was fortunate to escape any reported deaths as Typhoon Mawar left the area. The storm caused significant damage, as depicted in the image below.
For Hong Kong, as Typhoon Talim gradually moved away from the city in the afternoon, the observatory downgraded its warning. However, China’s National Meteorological Center predicted that the typhoon would make landfall in Guangdong and Hainan provinces on Monday night before entering the Gulf of Tonkin and striking the Guangxi region on Tuesday. Talim is expected to weaken further in Vietnam on Wednesday.
In Hong Kong, the government received reports of fallen trees and floods, urging residents to avoid the shoreline in these conditions.
