On Monday, the bus driver union contracted with Santa Clarita Transit went on strike, causing service to be halted for hundreds of students and passengers in the city.
Santa Clarita Transit announced on its website that service has been suspended on all commuter and most local routes due to the strike.
This strike is causing disruptions to bus service for students in the William S. Hart Union High School District and passengers throughout the city.
Bus services in Santa Clarita are provided by MV Transportation through a partnership with the city. The union voted to authorize a strike on September 15. However, MV Transportation has stated that the city of Santa Clarita is not involved in the labor dispute.
The union officially informed Santa Clarita Transit of their decision to halt work on September 28, but they waited a week before going on strike.
The city officials are urging both sides to continue negotiations and engage in good faith bargaining until an agreement is reached.
In addition to regular service, Santa Clarita Transit provides a school tripper service for students in the Hart district who attend La Mesa Junior High School, Castaic High School, Rancho Pico Junior High School, Saugus High School, and Arroyo Seco Junior High School.
MV Transportation is collaborating with the Hart district to implement a staggered bus service for students. As a backup plan, the district has arranged for additional bus services with LA Charter in case of any disruptions.
