Sage Engulfed in Devastating Wildfire, Threatening Homes as Hillside Ignites

A brush fire broke out on Wednesday in Sage, scorching approximately 16 acres of land. The incident led to the closure of a road and the evacuation of one residential property, but firefighters quickly established containment lines to minimize the damage.

The Riverside County Fire Department reported the non-injury blaze at around 1:45 p.m. in the vicinity of Stanley and Sage roads, just four miles north of Highway 371. By 6:45 p.m., the fire was 40% contained.

Emergency response teams from various agencies, including the county, Cal Fire-San Diego County, and the Corona Fire Department, swiftly arrived at the scene. They confronted a hillside engulfed in flames, spreading at a moderate pace through sparse vegetation.

Reports from the scene confirmed the deployment of four Cal Fire air tankers and two water-dropping helicopters, which performed a series of strategic runs to slow down the fire’s advancement.

Fortunately, only one house was in close proximity to the fire’s path. Sheriffs promptly evacuated the residence, ensuring no reports of any damages. The area affected by the fire is sparsely populated, which alleviates some concerns.

By 4:45 p.m., the majority of the aircraft had left the area, as firefighting crews continued to make steady progress in forming a perimeter around the fire.

Meanwhile, a section of Thomas Road, stretching from Wilson Valley Road to the fire zone, remained closed to ensure public safety.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire, aiming to determine the origins behind this incident.
