KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russian Drone and Missile Strike Damage Infrastructure in Odesa, Ukraine, Injuring One
In a series of attacks across Ukraine, Russian forces have targeted various locations, resulting in the deaths of five civilians and the injury of 13 others. The Black Sea port city of Odesa experienced damage to its infrastructure, including a grain silo and an abandoned hotel, as well as one person being injured. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s air force successfully downed all Russian drones, but a number of missiles managed to evade air defenses and caused further destruction.
Since terminating a deal that allowed Ukrainian grain exports to countries facing a food shortage, Russia has consistently attacked port and grain storage facilities in Odesa. These attacks have resulted in the destruction of critical infrastructure needed for storage and shipping, including silos, warehouses, and oil terminals.
The Russian Defense Ministry claims that the facilities targeted housed foreign mercenaries and trained saboteurs. However, it has not provided any specific details or locations to support its allegations. The ministry also reported the downing of several Ukrainian drones.
At the same time, independent U.N.-backed human rights experts have uncovered new evidence of war crimes committed by Russian forces. Additionally, the U.S. has sent Abrams tanks to Ukraine, as confirmed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
In separate incidents, Russian forces bombed and launched heavy artillery strikes in Ukraine’s Kherson region, resulting in the destruction of a school, a factory, and residential buildings. Three deaths and multiple injuries were reported in the city of Beryslav and the neighboring village of Lvove. Furthermore, residential areas in the Donetsk region were targeted, leading to the deaths of two individuals in the village of Zarichne. The Russian army also conducted airstrikes in the Zaporizhzhia region.
The Russian Defense Ministry claimed to have downed several Ukrainian drones and reported no casualties resulting from the attacks. However, Ukrainian rockets damaged a farm building and caused the death of cattle. These incidents also impacted flight operations in Moscow’s airports.
