The unveiling of the final schematic design for the first phase of the Palm Springs campus at College of the Desert will take place on Wednesday.
The Palm Springs Project Management Team meeting, which is open to the public, will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the multipurpose room of the Donald and Peggy Cravens Student Services Center on the Palm Desert campus, located at 43500 Monterey Ave. The College of the Desert (COD) website and YouTube page will also livestream the meeting.
The campus will encompass various facilities such as an event center, culinary institute, mobility hub, dinner restaurant, Hotel Villas, and more. It will be situated on the former Palm Springs mall site, bordered by East Tahquitz Canyon Way, South Farrel Drive, and East Baristo Road.
The project management team is responsible for expediting the completion of the schematic design.
“The college’s academic offerings will be enhanced through the inclusion of modern technology-equipped classrooms and learning environments, as well as gathering areas, flexible workspaces, and student support spaces designed to foster collaboration,” stated college officials.
In February, the Desert Community College District Board of Trustees approved initial plans for the campus and instructed staff to incorporate adjustments into the final schematic design. Afterward, the staff will proceed with final design and construction plans that will be submitted for a final approval from the Division of State Architect.
“The plans align with the college’s vision and direction as defined in the board-approved strategic, education, and master facility plans. These plans were developed through input and engagement from faculty, staff, students, and community partners,” said college officials.
College officials mentioned that whether attending virtually or in-person, individuals can submit comments for the meeting during the public comment period. Each person will have a three-minute time limit for speaking.
