The Rams secure a field goal in the second quarter with Brett Maher successfully kicking from 41 yards, resulting in a tie game at 3-3. This score remained until late in the half.
With just over 3 minutes left in the half, following a midfield punt by the Steelers that pinned the Rams at their own 12, the Rams faced third-and-3. Stafford made a crucial play, connecting with Puka Nacua for a 36-yard gain on a crossing route to reach midfield. On a broken play, Stafford then found Tutu Atwell for a spectacular 31-yard touchdown.
Under pressure from Alex Highsmith, Stafford, flushed from the pocket to his left, lofted a pass towards the goal line intended for Cooper Kupp, who seemed unaware of the ball. However, Atwell, already positioned in the end zone, made an impressive adjustment, catching the ball at the 1-yard line and stepping into the end zone.
Unfortunately, Maher missed the PAT, causing the Rams to settle for a 9-3 lead going into halftime.
Although the first half lacked offensive action, things quickly heated up in the third quarter.
On their first play from scrimmage, Los Angeles faced a setback as T.J. Watt intercepted a short crossing route intended for Puca Nakua, returning the ball to the Rams’ 7-yard line. Three plays later, Pickett rushed for a 1-yard touchdown, allowing the Steelers to take a 10-9 lead.
Reflecting on his interception, Watt stated, “It was just eyes on the quarterback and I was able to see him kind of work his way back towards my side of the field. I was able to jump in front and make a play on the ball.”
However, the Rams quickly capitalized on a rare mistake by Watt who was called for lining up offside on an incomplete third-down play, granting Los Angeles another chance to keep possession. On the first play following the penalty, Stafford completed a 32-yard pass down the sideline to Nacua, setting up a 1-yard touchdown run by Darrell Henderson. Stafford then sealed the deal with a successful 2-point conversion pass to Kupp, allowing the Rams to regain the lead at 17-10 with 8:56 remaining in the third quarter.
Maher encountered another miss, this time from 51 yards, late in the third quarter. The Steelers faced a challenging third-and-8 as they entered the fourth quarter, having converted only 1 of 7 third downs thus far in the game.
However, Pickett managed to find Johnson for a remarkable 39-yard catch-and-run, bringing the Steelers to the Los Angeles 18-yard line. Jaylen Warren scored two plays later from the 13-yard line, resulting in a tie game at 17-17 with 13:49 remaining in the game.
The Steelers achieved a three-and-out on the Rams’ subsequent possession, leading to a 10-play, 80-yard drive. This drive concluded with a 3-yard touchdown run by Harris, giving the Steelers a 24-17 lead with 7:20 remaining in the game.
With another punt by the Rams, the Steelers successfully ran out the clock for the remaining 5:28 of the game, securing their victory.
