Photos of Fish With Human-Like Teeth Caught in Oklahoma Pond

  • Charlie Clinton, an 11-year-old boy, made an extraordinary catch in the pond behind his Oklahoma home – a fish with teeth resembling those of a human.
  • Upon further investigation, experts identified the fish as a pacu, a South American cousin of the piranha.
  • Wildlife authorities believe that the pacu was likely someone’s exotic pet that was released into the pond after outgrowing its tank.

Janna Clinton’s 11-year-old son, Charlie, had an exciting fishing experience in July. While fishing in the pond behind their Oklahoma home, Charlie unexpectedly caught a fish with teeth resembling those of a human. Clinton initially thought her son was exaggerating, but she was surprised to see the fish’s distinct features.

“I was amazed by its size and, of course, the fact that it had teeth,” she said. “We took pictures, and Charlie couldn’t contain his excitement.”

After capturing the rare fish, Charlie released it back into the pond. Clinton shared the photos on a local Facebook page, where wildlife authorities later confirmed that it was a pacu, a South American fish related to the piranha. Pacu can reach lengths of up to 3.5 feet and weigh up to 88 pounds.

The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, in a Facebook post, stated that the pacu was likely someone’s exotic pet that was released into the pond when it became too large for its tank. They urged residents to report pacu sightings to local game wardens, as the species could pose a threat as an invasive species.

“When non-native fish or wildlife are introduced to a habitat, they compete with native species,” explained a representative from the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation.

Although unsure of what to initially do with the fish, Clinton mentioned that Charlie is determined to catch the pacu again and have it mounted as a keepsake.
