A highly anticipated three-act rock concert at Saratoga Performing Arts Center was abruptly canceled just as Noah Gallagher’s High Flying Birds were about to take the stage on Saturday night.
Jim Shahen, who was attending the show as a reviewer for the Times Union, recounted that after the first two acts, Metric and Garbage, had successfully performed their sets as planned, an announcement was made around 10 p.m. regarding unforeseen circumstances that would prevent the show from continuing. Attendees were urged to calmly and safely exit through the nearest main gate.
The urgency of the situation was heightened by a message projected on the screen, instructing the audience to evacuate the venue promptly while emphasizing the importance of following staff and police instructions without rushing or pushing.
According to eyewitnesses, the tour buses of the performing bands hastily departed the venue, while event staff prevented patrons from using the restrooms during the evacuation. Unfortunately, Live Nation, the show’s promoter, and the Saratoga Springs Police Department could not be reached for comment on the cancellation.
Garbage took to their official Twitter account about half an hour after the announcement to express their concern for the fans who were present at the show. They conveyed their prayers for the safety of everyone and expressed disbelief at the situation.
Although no official explanation for the disruption was provided immediately after the concert, Garbage’s bassist Daniel Shulman shared on Instagram that they had to evacuate hastily due to a bomb threat, adding an extra layer of fear to the situation.
Noah Gallagher, known for his tenure as a key member of Oasis, was scheduled as the headline act for the evening.
