No Signs of Extraterrestrial Origin Found: NASA Study Debunks UFO Claims

A yearlong study commissioned by NASA on unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) ― also known as UFOs ― has concluded that there is no evidence to suggest that they are of extraterrestrial origin.

During a press briefing on Thursday, NASA Administrator Bill Nelson stated, “We don’t know what these UAP are but we’re committed to finding out.”

The report, which was commissioned in June of last year and conducted by a panel of 16 independent experts, emphasizes that NASA has the technology required to enhance its understanding of UAP and to investigate them more effectively. Furthermore, the report suggests that openly addressing and reporting UAP sightings will help reduce the stigma associated with such incidents.

Nelson emphasized that most UAP sightings yield limited data and are often identified as balloons, aircraft, or known natural phenomena.

Nicola Fox, associate NASA administrator, expressed the agency’s desire for pilots, both private and commercial, as well as military personnel, to report any sightings they may have. Fox stated, “We want them to feel that it’s important to report what they see.”

In order to lead their efforts in researching UAP, NASA officials have appointed the agency’s first director of UAP research. However, the official’s name has not been shared due to the harassment some panel members faced during the study. Daniel Evans, a senior official in NASA’s science mission directorate, explained that the director’s name is being kept confidential to protect their safety. Evans stated, “Science needs to be free. Science needs a rational, objective process, and that requires freedom of thought.”

While NASA officials maintain an open mind about the nature of UAP, Nelson personally believes in the existence of extraterrestrial life. However, he doubts that the observed UAP are of extraterrestrial origin due to the vast distances they would have to traverse. He remarked, “It would require an exceptionally advanced civilization. The distances we’re talking about are light years, hundreds of light years, even billions of light years. But whatever we discover, we will share with the public.”
