Exciting news for fans of The Legend of Zelda! Nintendo is working on bringing the popular video game to life in a live-action film, as announced by Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator and game developer of the beloved franchise.

Miyamoto shared the news on Nintendo’s official X/Twitter account with the assurance that production is in full swing. Joining forces with film producer Avi Arad-san, Miyamoto is heavily involved in bringing this project to fruition with a promise of Nintendo’s direct engagement in the creative process. The filmmaker also hinted at an extensive timeline for the film’s completion but expressed his hopes for fans’ anticipation.
Adding further intrigue to the project is the announcement of Wes Ball, renowned for directing the “Maze Runner” trilogy and the upcoming “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” as the film’s director. The script will be penned by “Jurassic World” screenwriter Derek Connolly, with Miyamoto and Arad coming on board as producers. The collaboration between Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment ensures that the venture will introduce refreshing elements to the Zelda universe.
Following the phenomenal box office success of 2023’s animated “Mario,” Nintendo, after years of reluctance, seems determined to pave the way for translating video game magic onto the big screen, marking another significant shift in the company’s strategy. In a recent interview with Variety, Miyamoto emphasized the need for a fresh outlook on adapting video games for the cinema, reflecting the company’s evolving vision.
