Outcry Over ‘Groot’ Skin in Modern Warfare III
In recent weeks, players of Modern Warfare III have been expressing frustration over a skin for operator Nila “Nova” Brown, known as the Gaia skin. The skin, initially introduced in Modern Warfare II, has ignited outrage as it is almost invisible due to its colors and textures, leading to it being sarcastically nicknamed “Groot” after the Marvel character. After a continuous outcry on X, Reddit, and other platforms, developer Sledgehammer Games has announced plans to temporarily remove the controversial cosmetic in an upcoming update.
According to the studio, adjustments are being made to the Gaia and Gaia Blackcell Operator Skins to address the visibility issue. While it remains unclear how the developer plans to rework the skin or when the changes will take place, it is anticipated that efforts will be made to ensure it is more visible during gameplay.
Other Controversies Surrounding Modern Warfare III
Aside from the Gaia skin issue, Modern Warfare III has faced criticism for its campaign, spawn locations, and skill-based matchmaking, sparking further debate within the gaming community.
Kotaku has reached out to Activision for comment.
