Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) expressed strong support for President ‘s proposal to provide $106 billion in aid to Israel and Ukraine.
During an interview with CBS’ “Face the Nation,” McConnell defended the joint aid and emphasized the interconnectedness of Ukraine and Israel.
“I know there are Republicans who argue that Ukraine is somehow different, but I view it as all interconnected,” McConnell stated.
He further explained that a significant portion of the Ukraine assistance is used to purchase modern weapons made in 38 different states, which helps to rebuild the United States’ industrial base.

President Biden submitted a request for $106 billion to Congress on Friday to provide assistance to Ukraine and Israel in their respective conflicts. The aid package also aims to support victims in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip, enhance security in the Indo-Pacific region in response to China’s influence, and strengthen security at the U.S.-Mexico border.
In a prime-time Oval Office address, Biden emphasized the urgency of the budget request to address America’s national security needs.
McConnell, speaking on “Face the Nation,” stated that while he disagrees with Biden’s domestic policies, he shares the president’s views on foreign policy.
“We generally have similar positions,” the Republican leader said.
McConnell also highlighted that Ukraine’s efforts to defend itself against Russia are advantageous for the United States, as it weakens one of our biggest rivals.
“The Ukrainians are destroying the army of one of our biggest rivals. I have a hard time finding anything wrong with that. I think it’s wonderful that they’re defending themselves,” McConnell remarked.
CBS’ Margaret Brennan also inquired about McConnell’s health after his recent hospitalization for a concussion and instances of appearing frozen during press conferences.
“I’m in good shape, completely recovered, and back on the job,” McConnell assured Brennan, redirecting the focus to policy matters.
