Melissa Gilbert slams SAG-AFTRA’s Halloween rules, deeming them more ridiculous than a prairie house pasture covered in manure.
The Little House on the Prairie actress, who previously served as the union’s president, criticized the guild and its leadership, describing their stance on Halloween costumes during the actors’ strike as “childish.”
“Do you really think anyone cares about Halloween costumes?” Gilbert, 59, wrote on Instagram alongside a Hollywood Reporter article about the guild’s Halloween guidelines. “This kind of childish behavior won’t end the strike, will it?”
She further expressed, “We are making ourselves look foolish. Please tell me you’re going to remove this rule and initiate negotiations! People are suffering greatly, and this is the best you have to offer?”
Gilbert’s response was triggered by SAG-AFTRA’s Halloween guidelines posted on their website. The guidelines suggest that actors dress up as “generalized characters and figures (ghost, zombie, spider, etc.)” and avoid costumes based on content that is currently on strike, such as the Barbie movie, Oppenheimer, and franchises like Marvel and Star Wars.
The guild also advises members not to share photos of themselves on social media wearing costumes based on struck work, instead suggesting costumes from non-struck work, such as an animated TV show.
