A 27-year-old man pleaded guilty Thursday and was immediately sentenced to five years in prison for shooting a man he knew in Anaheim.
Andrew Rodriguez Ortiz shot a man in his 30s during a dispute in the 2000 block of East Almont Avenue, near State College Boulevard, Jan. 9, according to Anaheim Police Department Sgt. Shane Carringer.
Ortiz and victim knew each other, but it wasn’t clear what provoked the shooting, Carringer said.
The victim was hospitalized with a non-life-threatening wound, Carringer said.
Ortiz pleaded guilty to a felony count of assault with a firearm and admitted a sentencing enhancement for inflicting great bodily injury on the victim.
As part of his plea deal, felony counts of attempted murder and shooting at an inhabited dwelling were dismissed along with a sentencing enhancement for the discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury.
