Man pleads guilty in fatal beating of woman in Costa Mesa park – Orange County Register


A 27-year-old man was sentenced to 16 years to life in prison after admitting he beat a woman to death in a Costa Mesa park.

Daniel Correa pleaded guilty Thursday, July 29, to second-degree murder with a sentencing enhancement for the personal use of a deadly weapon. Police said he used a tree limb to kill 29-year-old Ashley Boulay of Massachusetts on Feb. 28, 2018.

The defendant and the victim were both homeless at the time. Correa called police about 7:10 a.m. the day of the killing and said he found a woman’s body at Talbert Regional Park, according to police.

Officers found the victim’s body at the Talbert Nature Preserve at 1299 Victoria St. Correa was subsequently arrested on suspicion of homicide, and was later charged with murder.
