Jürgen Klopp has dismissed any notions of Liverpool pursuing a loan deal for Kylian Mbappé, finding amusement in such suggestions. The talented French striker turned down an offer to engage in discussions with Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal following Paris Saint-Germain’s acceptance of a record-breaking £259m bid. Despite speculation, Klopp has made it clear that Anfield is not a feasible destination for Mbappé.
In an interview with Sky Germany prior to Liverpool’s pre-season Asia tour match against Bayern Munich in Singapore, Klopp stated, “We laugh about it. I acknowledge Mbappé’s ability as a player, but the financial arrangements are simply not compatible with our club. To my knowledge, there is nothing substantive behind these rumors, although it’s possible that someone else within the organization is secretly planning something to surprise me. That, however, would be an unprecedented situation in my eight years here.”
Liverpool has recently made an improved offer of £42m for midfielder Roméo Lavia, but it is expected to be rebuffed by Southampton, who have set an asking price of £50m. Lavia is eager to make the move, and negotiations between the clubs are ongoing.
Although Klopp has secured the signings of midfielders Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister, he has also witnessed some departures from the position, including Fabinho and Jordan Henderson.
