LinkedIn user says Queen Latifah ‘only queen I cry for’

A LinkedIn user caused a stir when he denounced Queen Elizabeth and refused to express sorrow over her death — insisting instead that rapper Queen Latifah “is the only Queen I’m willing to cry over when she passes.”

Jermaine L. Murray, a Toronto-based career coach and tech recruiter who founded the company JupiterHR, took to LinkedIn on Friday to chime in on the death of the British monarch, who passed away at age 96 on Thursday.

“As a Jamaican and Canadian, The Queen’s family has done unimaginable harm to my Family, Country, Community and Bloodline,” he wrote.

“I mourn for my lost heritage and as such, this is the only Queen I’m willing to cry over when she passes.”

The post generated thousands of reactions and hundreds of comments.

Most of those who reacted agreed with Murray, but there was some backlash.

“What has she done specifically?” responded Poul Oddershede.

Murray said that rapper Queen Latifah is the “only queen I would cry over if she passed.”

“Disgrace to state those things the time she dies, complete lack of respect.”

“I fully hear what you are saying but am disappointed by the timing thereof,” opined Terry Herrmann.

Amrita Chandhiok wrote that she was born in India, which was once a British colony.

“I empathize and understand what a lot of people have been posting,” she wrote.

“But my big question is why are you still living in the past? Some of these countries got freedom 50-60 years ago and still continue to elect leaders that plunder them recklessly.”

“So, who should we continue to blame?”

LinkedIn user Phil Steel challenged Murray.

“Please expand on your statement,” Steel wrote. “I’d like to hear exactly which family members did unimaginable harm to your family?”

“They all continue to benefit from the profits of slavery and my family is still dealing with the repercussions of slavery and colonialism,” Murray responded.

“The Queen and Andrew declined to pay reparations for slavery or offer an apology. They literally said, ‘We’ll think about apologizing one day’.”

Until the UK agrees to pay $10 billion in reparations to Jamaica, Murray said he’ll offer “prayers down.”

“I hope she burns in the fires of hell,” he wrote.

Queen Elizabeth II
“I hope she burns in the fires of hell,” Murray wrote of the deceased monarch.

After news of Queen Elizabeth II’s death was announced on Thursday, a Carnegie Mellon University professor, Nigerian-born Uju Anya, tweeted that she wished the monarch an “excruciating” death.

“I heard the chief monarch of a thieving raping genocidal empire is finally dying,” Anya tweeted.

“May her pain be excruciating.”

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, the world’s third richest person, condemned her, responding to the tweet: “This is someone supposedly working to make the world better?”

“I don’t think so,” Bezos added. “Wow.”

Twitter deleted the tweet, citing a violation of its terms of use. But Anya refused to apologize. Carnegie Mellon released a statement saying that it “does not condone” her tweets, but gave no indication it plans to discipline her.

In Argentina, which fought a war with the British in 1982 over the Falkland Islands, a television host poured champagne and toasted the monarch’s death live on the air.

Viral video also showed Irish soccer fans chanting “Lizzy’s in a box” in celebration of her death.
