Lightning storm briefly closes some beaches in LA and Orange counties – Orange County Register


Huntington Beach in Orange County and a stretch of beaches up the L.A. County coast were temporarily closed Wednesday morning, Oct. 12, after a lightning storm moved into the area.

L.A. County lifeguards announced around 10 a.m. a portion of beaches from Cabrillo to Manhattan Beach were closed. An hour later, county lifeguards announced all beaches in that stretch were closed as they monitored the storm.

By 11:35 a.m., the beaches had reopened.

Huntington Beach also closed its pier and beaches Wednesday morning, the city announced on Twitter. By 10 a.m., everything had reopened. The lightning in Huntington Beach also prompted a brief closure Tuesday evening.

The storm cell was moving across Southern California Wednesday afternoon, as the National Weather Service warned of brief heavy downpours in foothill communities of LA and San Bernardino counties.
