Lewis Hamilton’s pink camouflage outfit at Belgian Grand Prix is his latest whacky costume

Lewis Hamilton set tongues wagging with a daring pink balaclava as he arrived at the Belgian Grand Prix in another statement outfit.

The fashion-conscious Formula One ace bore a striking resemblance to a knitted tea cosy courtesy of his designer headpiece as he surveyed the track at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.

The Formula One ace, 37, crashed out of the race during the first lap on Sunday and later admitted he was at fault for a collision with Alpine driver Fernando Alonso.

But he still made an impression with his outfit, which also included a violet knitted jumper and cargo pants.

Lewis Hamilton conjured images of comfortable Sunday afternoons with the grandparents ahead of the Belgium Grand Prix this weekend as he sported a knitted balaclava that looked a little bit like a tea cosy

Lewis is known for his flamboyant style, and was seen sporting a funky blue and black Burberry kilt with a matching top and trousers at the Turkish Grand Prix preparation day last year.

There have been suggestions he may pursue a career in fashion after he retires from F1.

However, the champion seems content with strutting down the tarmac in his extravagant clothes for the moment.

Lewis boasts seven World Drivers’ Championship titles, the most wins (103), pole positions (103), and podium finishes (188), amongst others.

Yet while Lewis Hamilton’s talent on the track is undisputed, his outlandish fashion choices have been the subject of many debates.

The Mercedes driver has never been afraid to push the boundaries when it comes to his ensembles.

His phone case equally matched the bold look as he strolled past adoring fans yesterday in the striking crimson outfit.

He accessorised his look with sleek black-rimmed sunglasses and a subtle chain around his neck – not wanting to take attention away from his outfit.

The funky fashion statement was just one in a long line of daring ensembles the champion racer has experimented with.

Lewis told The Times: ‘When you’re in a fashion week you’re surrounded by people from all different walks of life expressing themselves in different ways, and I love that environment, where I’m able to express myself. I now do that on the race track.

‘I love being able to separate from the sport. The intensity of this whole season is difficult for everyone that’s at the track, and so to be able to have something else — another outlet, something else that you can focus on — helps take the weight off of it.

‘And so when I come back, it always feels fresh when it comes to a grand prix, because it’s not something I’ve been thinking about every single day.’
