The death toll of Americans in Israel’s war has risen to 30 as of Sunday, according to reports.
A spokesperson for the State Department stated, “We sadly confirm the deaths of 30 U.S. citizens. Our deepest condolences go out to the victims and their families,” a statement widely reported on by PBS NewsHour.
The spokesperson also mentioned that there are still 13 U.S. citizens whose whereabouts are unknown. However, U.S. officials have been in touch with their families, as reported by various sources.
These numbers are updates from the figures released on Saturday, which confirmed 29 Americans killed and 15 Americans missing by the State Department.
On Saturday, a State Department spokesperson stated, “The U.S. government is tirelessly working to determine their whereabouts and is collaborating with the Israeli government in all aspects of the hostage crisis, including intelligence sharing and deploying experts to aid in hostage recovery efforts.”
Hamas’s unexpected and brutal attack on Israel’s southern border resulted in over 1,300 Israeli casualties, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The Palestinian health ministry estimates that over 2,600 Palestinians have died in the conflict.
About 150 individuals were taken hostage in Israel on October 7.
The State Department strongly advises against traveling to Gaza and urges Americans to “reconsider” traveling to Israel and the West Bank, as stated in their travel advisory.
