Kylie Minogue Reflects on Padam Padam as the Pinnacle of her Career’s ‘Genuine Viral Breakthrough’

Kylie Minogue, the 55-year-old Australian singer, recently released a captivating electro dance anthem in May. The song quickly climbed the charts and spent four weeks in the UK top 10, marking her highest-charting song in the UK in over a decade. This track serves as the lead single for her upcoming 16th studio album, titled Tension. In addition to the release of her hit song, Minogue also dropped the album’s title track on Friday.

During an interview on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show, Minogue expressed her astonishment at the public’s reaction to her song “Padam Padam,” which quickly went viral on social media and was even mentioned in parliament. She stated, “It’s completely blown my mind.” When asked if she could have anticipated the magnitude of the song’s impact, she replied, “No, absolutely not. It’s like the aliens have taken over for a while. Everything was Padam. But to have a viral moment like this is truly unprecedented for me. I’ve been in the industry for decades, and this is the first time I’ve experienced something like this. The fact that people embraced it and made it their own was incredibly rewarding and entertaining.”

The music video for “Padam Padam” showcases Minogue in a striking red bodysuit, joined by her dancers, all dressed in red, as they perform a captivating dance routine in various locations. Similarly, her new single “Tension” features a catchy pop beat, and the singer dons a futuristic look with a vibrant red wig and a sparkling silver outfit for the song’s artwork.

As for upcoming performances, Minogue will headline Radio 2 in the Park in Leicester on September 17. Following that, she will embark on her first Las Vegas residency at nightclub Voltaire, located at The Venetian Resort, starting in November. Reflecting on her residency, Minogue explained, “It’s been years in the making, and it turned out to be different than what I had initially imagined. Instead of a large-scale production with water fountains and aerialists, we opted for a more intimate performance. It’s reminiscent of the classic club atmosphere, like Sinatra’s shows. There will be sofas, snugs, and tables. It’s a whole night of entertainment, and then I take the stage for an audience of 1,000. It’s a very intimate experience.”

Minogue mentioned that she previously attended Lady Gaga’s jazz show, which she described as brilliant. She added, “Over time, these shows have become more like arena performances. So my show at Voltaire club is this big, glamorous experience, but still maintains that intimate setting.”

Fans can anticipate the release of Kylie Minogue’s album, Tension, on September 22.
