Kennedy Denies Her Posts Were Racist

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. appeared before a House hearing on government censorship to address accusations of promoting racist and hateful online conspiracy theories. Despite calls from outside groups to disinvite him, Kennedy defended his social media posts, which cover topics such as race and vaccine safety, as constitutionally-protected free speech. He referred to the First Amendment as a right that applies even to speech that may be considered unpopular.

Kennedy’s appearance at the hearing was criticized by Democrats who claimed it provided a platform for promoting conspiracy theories and bigotry. However, Republican representatives, including panel chairman Jim Jordan, supported Kennedy’s testimony and highlighted instances of what they view as censorship, such as a White House request to Twitter to remove one of Kennedy’s posts about COVID-19 vaccines.

Major tech companies have denied allegations of bias against conservatives and maintain that their content moderation policies are impartial. Researchers have also found no widespread evidence of social media companies exhibiting bias against conservative news or materials. Kennedy, who recently faced backlash for spreading an antisemitic COVID-19 theory, has announced his intention to challenge President Biden in the Democratic primaries.
