Joel Embiid, the star player for the Philadelphia 76ers, has recently made waves on social media with an interview where he expresses his desire to win an NBA championship, whether it’s in Philly or elsewhere. The Cameroonian big man, who secured the NBA Most Valuable Player award last season, is determined to achieve this goal.
Despite his individual success, Embiid and the 76ers were eliminated by the Boston Celtics in the second round of the NBA playoffs. This led to the firing of coach Doc Rivers and the hiring of former Toronto coach Nick Nurse.
In the interview with Maverick Carter, a longtime friend and business partner of LeBron James, Embiid stated, “I just want to win a championship. Whatever it takes. I don’t know where that’s going to be, whether it’s in Philly or anywhere else, I just want to have a chance to accomplish that. I want to see what it feels like to win that first one, and then you can think about the next one.”
Embiid acknowledges that winning a championship is not easy and requires a strong supporting cast. He emphasizes his dedication to working hard every day to reach that level.
Since the interview, speculation has circulated that Embiid may be considering a trade. The 76ers are already pursuing options to trade All-Star guard James Harden. However, Embiid, who signed a long-term contract extension in 2021, expressed his hope that Harden would stay with the team.
