The Jets have their Week 1 starter — and Week 2 and Week 3, too.
Despite some late speculation that Zach Wilson might return from his knee injury in time to play the Ravens on Sunday, it will indeed be Joe Flacco under center for the Jets. And Jets coach Robert Saleh said Wednesday that the earliest Wilson would be back is Week 4.
Wilson, who suffered a torn meniscus and bone bruise in his right knee that required surgery during the first preseason game, went through a workout earlier this week. Saleh said the team wanted to see how his knee responded before announcing a starter.
Clearly, though, the Jets have no plans to rush him back.
Instead, it will be Flacco, a respected veteran and former Super Bowl winner with the Ravens, who will get the ball.
Saleh said Tuesday that whoever plays quarterback won’t affect the team’s preparation.
“It does nothing for us from a game-plan standpoint,” Saleh said. “All three of our quarterbacks are capable of running our offense at a high level. For [offensive coordinator] Mike [LaFleur] and all of [the coaches], they’ll be able to game plan the way they need to.”
