Two people aboard a Sling Tsi plane were critically injured when it crashed onto a soccer field in the Wilmington area on Monday. The incident took place at 12:53 p.m. in the 400 block of West Westmont Drive, as reported by Margaret Stewart from the Los Angeles Fire Department.
“Upon LAFD’s arrival, the pilot was still in the plane and had to be extricated,” Stewart stated.
“Both patients were transported to the hospital in critical condition,” Stewart added. “There were no other reported injuries or fire incidents.”
Eye-witnesses reported both individuals being taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
The 45-year-old male and the 30-year-old female were identified as the two patients, according to Stewart.
The flight originated in Torrance, as mentioned by an LAFD spokesperson.
Authorities are currently investigating the crash, with the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Agency leading the investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
“This unfortunate incident occurred on the Field of Dreams,” said county Supervisor Janice Hahn, who represents the area, on X, previously known as Twitter. “We have been informed that both the pilot and passenger have been taken to the hospital in critical condition. Our thoughts and prayers are with them, and we are thankful that there were no injuries on the ground.”
