Insightful Interview: Bijan Robinson Reveals Reasons for Absence in Falcons’ Triumph over Buccaneers

TAMPA, Fla. — The disappearance of Bijan Robinson throughout Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers sparked curiosity among fans. As the game progressed, his number was seen less and less.

In the first half of the Week 7 matchup, the Atlanta Falcons running back did not receive a single touch. By the end of the game, he had only one carry for 3 yards in the fourth quarter, contributing to the Falcons’ 16-13 victory over the Buccaneers.

During halftime, the FOX broadcast reported that Robinson was not feeling well. After the game, Robinson confirmed that he had been dealing with a persistent headache in the locker room at Raymond James Stadium.

“I started feeling weird last night,” Robinson said. “I woke up feeling completely out of it. I tried to take medicine to feel better for the game, but my head was throbbing. I don’t know what was going on. I attempted to warm up before the game, but coach Arthur Smith said, ‘We’ll be all right. Let’s get you right.'”

Robinson was not included in any of Atlanta’s injury reports leading up to the game.

Official snap counts will be released on Monday, but it is clear that Robinson’s playing time in Week 7 was significantly lower than previous games. In the first six games, he played at least 33 snaps or at least 61% of the snaps. However, his numbers for Week 7 will not come close to those marks.

“No matter what I’m going through, I will push through,” Robinson said. “But I understand it’s a long season. I trust that Coach Smith has my best interests at heart. When he has a plan, I will follow it without question. I will be ready for the next game.”

The Falcons will face the Tennessee Titans next Sunday at Nissan Stadium.

It is worth noting that Robinson has played in every NFL game of his young career so far. He remembers the very few games he has ever missed, including two at Texas and two in high school.

There was never any doubt that Robinson would dress for Sunday’s game. The plan was for him to warm up and see if his pain subsided. Unfortunately, it never fully did.

“He wasn’t feeling like himself,” Smith explained. “He played, but we didn’t want to overdo it. We were being cautious. When we have other capable players, we act as a team. We will continue to monitor him tonight and tomorrow.”

Running backs Tyler Allgeier and Cordarrelle Patterson carried the run game for the Falcons. Allgeier had 21 carries for 59 yards, while Patterson had 10 carries for 56 yards.

Quarterback Desmond Ridder was the only other Atlanta player to contribute to the rushing stats, with six carries for 38 yards and a touchdown. He scored on a 2-yard run in the first quarter.

Throughout the game, Robinson could be seen high-fiving his teammates on the sideline.

“I was trying to be a good teammate,” Robinson said. “Even though I was dealing with my own issues, I wanted to make sure the guys – Ty, CP, the offense, the defense – stayed focused. That was my main goal. I’m extremely happy with how we won the game.”
