Maria Jacqueline Peguero, the wife of Seattle Mariners outfielder Carlos Peguero, was involved in a case of wire fraud that targeted Sandra Hernandez. Peguero allegedly made illegal transactions amounting to a staggering $180,000 in purchases from Saks Fifth Avenue between June 26, 2012, and October 9, 2012.
It was alleged that Peguero took advantage of Sandra Hernandez’s credit cards by spending a lot of time at her house, exploiting her imperfect English. The items purchased were traced back to an email address linked to Peguero’s Twitter account, leading to their discovery through a search warrant.
A significant number of transactions, more than 60 in total, revealed a spree of purchases ranging from small amounts to astonishing sums exceeding $11,000. The U.S. Secret Service officially charged Maria Peguero with three counts of wire fraud, prompting her to change her plea to guilty in Tacoma federal court.
