A motorist tragically lost their life in a single-vehicle accident at the Port of Long Beach early on Monday morning.
The incident occurred around 3:10 a.m. on Highway 47 near Ocean Boulevard, as reported by the Long Beach Police Department.
The deceased has been identified as Juan Carlos Diaz Hernandez, a 55-year-old male, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. Further details about his place of residence were not disclosed.
Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement discovered an overturned vehicle with a male driver partially ejected from it, the police stated.
An initial investigation conducted by the police revealed that the accident involved a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer traveling at a high speed southbound on Highway 47. The vehicle crossed Ocean Boulevard’s intersection and entered an exit ramp leading to a shipping terminal, where it collided with cement barriers and overturned.
Police mentioned, “No other vehicles were involved in the incident, and no passengers were present in the vehicle. Speeding and impaired driving are suspected to be factors contributing to the collision.”
