Halfmoon Sandwich Shoppe owner returning with a new concept and location

CLIFTON PARK — Barely two weeks after closing his popular Halfmoon Sandwich & Salad Shoppe following a 15-year run, owner Sean Lee is promising a return to the restaurant business in late fall.

“New restaurant. New concept. New location,” he wrote in a Facebook post on Monday. The post included a photo of the sandwich shop’s electronic sign with a message saying, “Find us at 1218 Rte. 146.”

A Google Maps photo of the building at that Clifton Park address, taken in July, shows a sign for business called Stromboli’s Pizza & Grill. That concept appears to have been a rebranding of Troy-based I Love Pizza’s Clifton Park location that never happened because of the pandemic.

When questioned about his new place by Facebook commenters, Lee declined to be specific, saying only, “Halfmoon Sandwich is closed forever. NEW business (NOT HSSS!) coming in the late fall. … (Name and concept) To be announced! Just follow along here and we will lead you to us.”

A perennial favorite among voters in the Times Union’s annual Best of the Capital Region contest, the sandwich shop closed on Aug. 20. Lee attributed the closure to the end of the lease on the original building, at 1613 Route 9, which the shop occupied starting in 2007.

He also owned Rocco’s, a contemporary-American restaurant with Italian influences in the Clifton Park hamlet of Jonesville, from 2014 to 2019.
