“Many years ago, I fell ill and was admitted to the hospital for a couple of weeks. Little did I know that this would become one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Not because I was sick and on the path to recovery, but because I had the privilege of sharing a room with Michael Gambon.
From the moment we met, it was like a scene out of Downton Abbey. We spent nearly two weeks together, laughing, sitting in silence, and listening to Classic FM. I was captivated by his storytelling abilities and my heart was completely won over by this remarkable man.
When we were finally discharged, I had the chance to see Michael perform on stage in the West End. Over dinner, he continued to enchant me with his endless supply of captivating stories. His presence, whether on stage, screen, or in real life, was absolutely awe-inspiring.
Michael Gambon was one of the most influential individuals I have ever met, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have spent time with him. Rest in peace, my hospital hero. I’m sure you’re regaling the angels with your incredible stories – don’t you dare leave anything out, they’re simply too delicious!”
Sir Michael Gambon’s career extended beyond the Harry Potter franchise. He appeared in numerous films and TV series, but one of his most iconic roles was that of Philip Marlow in Dennis Potter’s The Singing Detective in 1986. Additionally, his illustrious theatre career included notable performances in Alan Ayckbourn’s The Norman Conquests and Nicholas Hytner’s National Theatre production of Henry IV, Parts 1 and 2.
