Glastonbury Festival 2023 Welcomes Numerous Attendees as Gates Swing Open

Festival enthusiasts heading to Pilton in Somerset for the upcoming event may encounter travel disruptions due to wet weather. However, the skies are expected to clear over Worthy Farm just in time for the start of the music festivities on Friday. This year’s festival promises an array of world-class music stars, as well as engaging speeches by politicians, captivating film screenings, breathtaking theatre and circus performances, and much more.

The highly anticipated Arctic Monkeys will take the stage as the top-billed act on Friday night at the Pyramid Stage. This will mark their third time headlining the festival, having previously done so in 2007 and 2013. However, there has been some uncertainty surrounding their performance after the rock band had to cancel their Dublin show due to their frontman, Alex Turner, suffering from acute laryngitis.

On Saturday night, fans can look forward to the legendary US rockers Guns N’ Roses headlining the event. The original lineup of Axl Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan, who reunited in 2015, will grace the stage. Lizzo, a sensational musician, will play just before them and shares joint headline billing on the lineup poster. It’s worth noting that all the acts closing the Pyramid Stage throughout the festival will be male, despite the festival’s goal of achieving gender balance. Co-organizer Emily Eavis explained that a female headliner was initially planned but had to cancel.

The illustrious Sir Elton John will bring the festival to a close on Sunday night, marking the end of his scheduled farewell tour dates in the UK. His performance is expected to attract massive crowds. Prior to his show, the teatime legends slot will feature Yusuf/Cat Stevens, followed by the iconic rock outfit Blondie. This slot has previously been occupied by esteemed artists like Dolly Parton, Kylie Minogue, and Diana Ross.

A plethora of other talented artists, including Christine And The Queens, Lana Del Rey, Lewis Capaldi, and Lil Nas X, are also set to grace the stage throughout the weekend. Additionally, the festival will feature performances by Eurovision winners Maneskin and Brits Rising Star winners Flo, making their debut appearances at the event.

There has been anticipation and speculation surrounding the mystery band listed as “The Churnups” on Friday’s main stage lineup. It is rumored that this may actually be the renowned rock band Foo Fighters performing before Arctic Monkeys, alongside the rock duo Royal Blood.

In terms of weather, “impactful” thunderstorms have been forecasted for areas including Devon, Cornwall, and eastern regions of England, potentially causing travel disruptions on Tuesday. Wet weather is also expected on Wednesday. However, the festival itself is likely to evade the worst of the storms, with only a few showers anticipated during the first couple of days. Moreover, temperatures are set to remain warm at 22°C on Wednesday and Thursday. As the weekend approaches, the rain is expected to clear, paving the way for drier and brighter conditions, with temperatures reaching a high of 26°C on Sunday, just in time for Sir Elton’s headline performance.

Organizers have issued guidance to festival-goers, urging them not to bring certain items that are harmful to the environment or pose safety risks. This includes disposable vapes, as they contribute to pollution and can be hazardous at waste centers. Other prohibited items include gazebos, non-biodegradable body glitter, disposable wipes, knives, and anything made of glass.

Lastly, it is worth noting that the 2023 edition of the festival is already scheduled to take place from June 21 to 25 at Worthy Farm in Somerset.
