There will be a one minute’s silence observed for the Queen ahead of the first race, the racecourse’s Twitter account announced prior to the start of the event.

Speaking about preparations for the day following the Queen’s death last week, Ayr racecourse said on Twitter: ‘The much anticipated Virgin Bet Ayr Gold Cup takes place today.

‘We’ll be paying tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with a minutes silence 15 mins before the first race and jockeys will be wearing black armbands.’
