Arlington, Texas — In the midst of an offensive drought, quarterback Geno Smith and the Seattle Seahawks entered Thursday night’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. Having scored just three touchdowns in the previous four weeks, the team was looking to turn things around. And they did just that – and quickly.
Just when things seemed bleak for the Seahawks, Smith found receiver DK Metcalf on a third-and-9 play in their opening drive. Smith’s perfectly placed throw over two defenders allowed Metcalf to take it all the way for a 73-yard touchdown, giving the Seahawks an early 7-3 lead. This marked the first time the Cowboys were trailing at home in the season.

Responding to the Seahawks’ early lead, the Cowboys quickly regained momentum with a Dak Prescott touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb, taking a 10-7 lead.
With Metcalf’s 73-yard touchdown catch, he reached a top speed of 22.23 mph, making it the fastest speed by a ball carrier since Week 2 of the 2020 season (Raheem Mostert, 23.09 mph).
According to ESPN Stats & Information, Metcalf has now tied Steve Largent for the fourth-most receiving touchdowns of at least 50 yards in Seahawks history with five.
Despite the early lead by the Cowboys, the Seahawks fought back and capped off a solid drive with a one-yard touchdown by running back Zach Charbonnet. This rookie’s touchdown narrowed the gap to 17-14.

Before the end of the second quarter, Dallas extended their lead to 20-14 with a field goal. However, Smith and Metcalf delivered once again. A one-yard pass from Smith to Metcalf with four seconds remaining in the half shifted the lead to the Seahawks, 21-20.
