GAA pose question on video technology for referees as part of questionnaire for strategic review

The GAA has launched an extensive seven-part online survey as part of its 2021-2026 Strategic Review being headed by president Larry McCarthy.

he survey is open for the next 10 days and is wide-ranging and specific in some of the questions being asked, from equalisation of coaching and games resources across the country to integration of the GAA, LGFA and Camogie Association.

The use of video technology for referees and whether the Association should extend its ‘rainy-day’ fund are also addressed.

For the first time, the Association will use Foireann – its purpose-built membership management system – to send the survey link directly to the email address of every eligible member.

The questions in the survey are based on the feedback from a comprehensive programme of research, which included surveys and focus groups with players, coaches, officers, other volunteers, and employees at club and county levels, along with other key GAA stakeholders.

The steering group has engaged data-analytics experts to pinpoint the key themes from the survey, which should inform their thinking on the strategic change required.

McCarthy is joined on the committee by director-general Tom Ryan, GAA planning co-ordinator Ruairí Harvey, former Cork footballer Conor McCarthy, Dr Elish Kelly, a former Roscommon footballer and ESRI researcher, former Dublin footballer and manager Pat Gilroy, Limerick’s Paul Foley, professor David Hassan, chair of the standing committee on playing rules, the GAA’s coaching and games development director Shane Flanagan and Kerry chair Tim Murphy.
