FireWolves reach terms with Shenendehowa grad Kyle Marr

Shenendehowa high graduate Kyle Marr is coming home to play for the Albany FireWolves.

Marr, the son of University at Albany men’s lacrosse coach Scott Marr, has agreed to a one-year deal with the FireWolves, the National Lacrosse League franchise announced today.

Kyle Marr, a forward, played in two games as an NLL rookie with the Philadelphia Wings last season.

“I think it’s a great opportunity,” Kyle Marr said. “Just talking with them and seeing their team is going in a little bit of a new direction and I had a great first year, so set to come back to the Capital Region and play at home.”

After graduating from Shenendehowa, Marr spent one season at the Hill Academy in Ontario, Canada before moving on to Johns Hopkins. With the Blue Jays, Marr had 107 goals and 51 assists over his 63-game college career.

He played professionally outdoors for the Denver Outlaws and Philadelphia Barrage of Major League Lacrosse and then made the transition to the NLL, often a challenging change for American players. He’ll begin training camp with the FireWolves Oct. 28 at MVP Arena under head coach and general manager Glenn Clark.

“We kind of talked about being a new opportunity for me and playing on the Wings the last couple of years, the depth has been really strong,” Marr said. “Just trying to fight my way through that lineup and now just coming here and take whatever role I can get.”

Kyle Marr also spent last season as a volunteer assistant coach at Drexel. He lived in  Philadelphia and worked in team sales at Lacrosse Unlimited. He said he’s still figuring out his plans for this season.

“Both my parents are excited,” Marr said. “They’re still living in the same house where we grew up and stuff like that, so they’re excited to be right there and make as many games as they can if everything goes well.”
