Felony Stabbing: Hemet Woman Tragically Murdered – Suspect Faces Charges

A felon accused of murder in the stabbing death of a woman at a Hemet property has been formally charged. Autumn Brooke Goodwin, a 27-year-old Hemet resident, was apprehended on Friday following an investigation conducted by the Hemet Police Department into the killing of Shawna Rhoades.

Goodwin has been charged with murder and an additional sentence-enhancing allegation for the use of a knife during the commission of a felony.

Currently, she is being held in the Smith Correctional Facility on $1 million bail and is scheduled for her initial court appearance at the Banning Justice Center on Wednesday afternoon.

Hemet police Lt. Art Paez stated that the incident took place around 12:30 a.m. on September 18th on South Gilbert Street, near Stetson Avenue. Goodwin and Rhoades were involved in an altercation of unspecified nature.

During the altercation, Goodwin allegedly produced a knife and repeatedly stabbed Rhoades before fleeing the scene, according to Paez.

Witnesses dialed 911, and patrol officers arrived at the location within minutes. They attempted life-saving measures until an ambulance transported Rhoades to a nearby trauma center, where she succumbed to her injuries shortly thereafter.

Following an investigation by detectives, Goodwin was identified as the alleged assailant. A search warrant was executed at her residence on Vista Del Monte, resulting in her arrest without incident, as reported by Lt. Paez.

The motive for the attack has not been disclosed.

Court records reveal that Goodwin has a previous conviction for assault with a deadly weapon.
