Authorities have identified Connie Ramirez, a 72-year-old woman from Palm Desert, as the victim of a fatal car accident. The incident occurred when Ramirez tried to turn into a parking lot and was struck by another vehicle.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department confirmed Ramirez’s identity on Tuesday night. The collision took place at the intersection of Hovley Lane and Washington Street at approximately 2:50 p.m. Deputies quickly arrived at the scene in response to a report of a two-vehicle crash.
“Upon arrival, deputies witnessed members of the public providing assistance to both drivers until paramedics took over,” said Sgt. Don Olson. “Unfortunately, Ramirez succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.”
The driver of the other vehicle was transported to the hospital with minor injuries that are not life-threatening, according to officials. The Traffic Team from the Palm Desert station has taken charge of the investigation.
Initial evidence suggests that Ramirez was making a southbound turn into the parking lot when the eastbound vehicle collided with hers, as stated by Olson. There is no indication of alcohol or drug impairment playing a role in the accident.
