Nigel Farage Criticizes “Totalitarian” Decision to Remove GB News from Welsh Parliament’s TV System
Former Brexit Party leader and GB News presenter, Nigel Farage, expressed his disapproval of a recent decision to remove GB News from the internal television system at the Welsh Parliament, calling it “totalitarian”. Nigel Farage joined Andrew RT Davies, the leader of the Welsh Conservatives, in condemning this move.
A spokesperson for Llywydd Elin Jones, the presiding officer of the Senedd, stated that the channel was removed due to a broadcast that was deemed “contrary to our parliament’s values”.
Actor-turned-politician Laurence Fox was previously dismissed from GB News for making derogatory comments about a female journalist during a live broadcast. This incident led to the channel’s removal from the Senedd’s internal television system, but it remains available online.
The decision to remove GB News will be discussed by the Senedd’s cross-party commission at a later date. Meanwhile, the spokesperson for Ms. Jones assured that staff and members who still wish to watch GB News can do so online.
Nigel Farage expressed his condemnation of the decision, stating, “This shows just how awful the Welsh Labour administration is. They are totalitarian in their thinking and behavior. Is this what lies in store for the whole of the UK under (Sir Keir) Starmer?”
Welsh Secretary David Davies also criticized the decision, accusing Mark Drakeford’s administration of imposing a “blanket ban” on the station’s televisions in the Senedd. He deemed this move as “appalling” and emphasized the importance of media plurality for a functioning democracy.
