The latest Soulslike to hit the scene this year is Lords of the Fallen, a reboot of the 2014 game of the same name. While reviews have been mixed and its dual-world exploration mechanics have me on edge, the game’s notorious difficulty stems from its relentless enemies who are constantly after you. Or at least, they were until a recent patch made a significant change to the game’s trash mobs.
Released on October 23 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, patch 1.1.224 for Lords of the Fallen brings various adjustments to the action-RPG. In addition to fixing annoying bugs like T-posing models and collision issues, this update also modifies enemy density and hostility, keeping them on a tighter leash. As a result, they will stop chasing you for extended periods once they’re aggroed, allowing you to explore the worlds of the living and the dead without a horde of relentless pursuers.

This is just one of the many planned changes by developer Hexworks. As outlined on the Lords of the Fallen‘s official subreddit, another patch set to release on October 26 for all platforms will decrease the number of enemies “in areas where players struggle the most.” Unfortunately, the specific areas weren’t mentioned in the Reddit post. However, these foes will remain present in New Game Plus, with increased density and hostility in the game’s dual worlds of Axiom and Umbral. During the initial playthrough, enemies should appear less frequently. The October 26 update will also reduce the frequency of enemy ambushes.
Furthermore, the latest update introduces a significant change to New Game Plus. After completing the game, players can now choose to either reset the entire world or continue in their current one. Both options allow for the retention of character, items, and progress. Opting for New Game Plus in the current world will maintain the existing difficulty level rather than increasing it. Additionally, with the October 26 update, Vestiges (the game’s equivalent of Dark Souls‘ bonfires) will no longer disappear when starting New Game Plus. These adjustments aim to make trophy hunting and exploration more manageable.

These are the key takeaways from the current and upcoming patches: Lords of the Fallen seems to gradually become easier with each update. Don’t be mistaken, though. It’s still a challenging video game. After all, it is a Soulslike. Nevertheless, changes like these will make it more accessible.
