Kia has officially announced the pricing for the base models of its highly anticipated 2024 EV9 electric SUV. The concept of this remarkable vehicle was showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo held in Delhi, which generated considerable buzz. The EV9 is designed as a flagship electric vehicle and is built upon the cutting-edge Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). The announced price for the base-spec Kia EV9 Light RWD trim has created quite a stir in the industry.
Kia EV9 Base Model: A Value-for-Money Proposition?
The base-spec Kia EV9 is priced at a competitive $54,900 in the USA, which roughly translates to Rs. 45.66 lakh with current exchange rates. Please note that this pricing does not include the destination charge, which adds an additional $1,320 in the USA. These base models are likely to be manufactured in South Korea and then shipped to the USA. The exciting news for Indian consumers is that there are indications of a potential launch in India, as Kia expressed interest and showcased the EV9 at the 2023 Auto Expo. If the EV9 is brought to India through the CBU (Completely Built-Up) route, it is expected to come with a premium price tag, possibly around double the US pricing. In addition to the base Light RWD trim with a 76.1 kWh battery, Kia also offers Light Long Range, Wind, Land, and GT-Line trim levels, all of which come with a larger 99.8 kWh battery. The pricing for these trims will be revealed at a later date.
What Does the Base Light RWD Trim Offer?
The Kia EV9 base Light RWD trim features a single motor powertrain setup, as the name suggests. This powerful motor delivers an impressive 215 bhp of power and 350 Nm of torque. It draws power from a 76.1 kWh battery pack, which provides a claimed range of approximately 359 km on a single charge.
The Light RWD trim boasts similar exterior design elements as the other trims and is equipped with smaller 19-inch wheels. Thanks to the E-GMP modular platform’s cutting-edge 800V architecture, the EV9 supports DC fast charging capabilities. Kia claims that the battery can go from 10% to 80% State of Charge (SOC) in just around 25 minutes, which is truly impressive.
The SUV’s design incorporates elements from Kia’s EV range while bearing a strong resemblance to the popular Kia Telluride. In fact, the Kia EV9 is similar in size to the Telluride, measuring 5,008 mm in length and boasting an impressive 3,099 mm long wheelbase. To put this into perspective, the EV9’s wheelbase is slightly longer than the upcoming Mercedes-Benz E Class LWB.
India Launch on the Horizon?
Inside the cabin, the EV9 features a 2+2+2 seating arrangement, with the second-row seats swiveling 180 degrees to face the third-row seats. The center stage is dominated by twin 12.3-inch horizontal screens for the infotainment and instrumentation systems. On the exterior, notable elements include a distinctive geometric alloy wheel design, massive LED DRLs, LED headlights, twin sunroofs, a closed Tiger-nose grille, an upright stance, and flush door handles.
